Last Night

June 24 | Leave a Comment

Last night I had the opportunity to speak to 100 young adults about a subject that is very dear to my heart. I give nutrition presentations on a weekly basis. Yet, I rarely get to share my entire beliefs about nutrition, our bodies, and our spirits. When the latest crazes and extremes engulf our culture, my testimony of the Word of Wisdom (WOW) always brings me back to reality. I know that I might lose respect as a nutritional professional from some, but I truly believe everyone should have a personal passion behind their choices. Furthermore, sharing my full beliefs shouldn't negate over 13 years of study and practice. My lifestyle reflects my own interpretation of research and this Principle with Promise. The WOW was revealed to members of my faith long before scientists knew anything ... View Post

Goals for success

June 18 | Leave a Comment

Yesterday I was feeling so depressed, tired and grumpy. The thing with exercise for me is it can make you feel so great and so low (when you don't do it) . When I don't exercise for a few days I get in a serious down mood. I have been in a slump. I'm used to doing hard intense workouts, but my workouts are slowing down (as they should because I"m pregnant). My husband who is training for a marathon, his workouts are picking up! (which I have realized has been hard for me) Instead of feeling sorry for myself while my husband is running his face off, I decided to re do my exercise goals so they could be realistic for my pregnancy. I listed 3 things that might help anybody who is in a slump: 1-How are your goals? Are they realistic but still a push? If you have down you are ... View Post

21 DPC - Success Stories

May 28 | 1 Comment

Meet Annie. Another one of our 21 Day PURE Challenge finishers. She did awesome! She lost ten pounds and is so proud of her accomplishments. We are too! Here are a few more testimonials. "One thing that has really helped me is that I am eating 3 solid meals a day. I know I was not eating enough food before. Sometimes, after feeding my kids I just could care less about eating myself and grab a few bites here and there - really pathetic! I never skipped breakfast - but it was never a solid meal. Boiled eggs are now my friend. I could eat an avocado daily." - Heather T. "I feel amazing. I followed this to a "T" and I am so happy with my results." - Jennifer A. "Devrie and Brecke were so helpful as I took on this challenge while nursing. I'm not going to lie, it was tough. I suggest having ... View Post

Why Whole 30 isn’t the only pathway to health

May 13 | 5 Comments

My thoughts on whole 30… Disclaimer: I am a nutritional professional. I am writing my feelings as honestly as possible. I am not trying to be negative. I support everyone who aims to eat better. A fad is something that is very popular for a short amount of time. I have discussed this subject with numerous nutrition professionals and read plenty of articles –that combined with my professional opinion and my personal beliefs. There is no doubt that Whole30 is a fad, a trend, a craze. Before you get offended, let me say this – a fad isn’t necessarily bad. For example, I’m currently building a new home. White kitchens are all the rage. They are clean and bright. Of course I want a white kitchen, that’s what’s in. But, in five years will white kitchens still be in? I don’t know. Some may say ... The 21 Day PURE Challenge

April 30 | 5 Comments

We get asked all the time, "I just need to lose 10 pounds" or, "I have a trip coming up and I want to look my best." or, "My sister is getting married in a month and I have some baby weight to lose." We get it. While we advocate feeling your best and loving you body. Sometimes we just want to be vain and lose a couple pounds. We came up with the 21 Day PURE Challenge for the reasons mentioned above. We want you to reach your goal in the safest way possible, using REAL food. We don't want you starving yourself on a juice cleanse and we don't want you to cut out major food groups for good, but we will have you do that for a little while. We will also tell you to add them back in. The combination of quality protein and complex carbs will give you the nourishment your body requires. The ... View Post

A High Energy Easter

April 17 | Leave a Comment

In my nearly seven years of motherhood I have yet to pass out candy on holidays. Before you call me a "scrooge", let me tell you why. During my Dietetic Internship I had the opportunity to work with The Heart Links Project (THLP). This program's main goal was to get food out of the classroom. It opened my eyes to the amount of sugar our kids are exposed to not only on a daily basis - on Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Easter. Parents go crazy on holidays and it was THLP's mission to stop it. This was in New York, they're always ahead of the game and ruffling feathers at the same time. The amount of sugar that our children are exposed to is ridiculous and scary. According to the American Heart Association, children should consume less than 12 grams of added sugar per day! Do ...
