Goals for success
Yesterday I was feeling so depressed, tired and grumpy.
The thing with exercise for me is it can make you feel so great and so low (when you don’t do it) . When I don’t exercise for a few days I get in a serious down mood. I have been in a slump. I’m used to doing hard intense workouts, but my workouts are slowing down (as they should because I”m pregnant). My husband who is training for a marathon, his workouts are picking up! (which I have realized has been hard for me)
Instead of feeling sorry for myself while my husband is running his face off, I decided to re do my exercise goals so they could be realistic for my pregnancy.
I listed 3 things that might help anybody who is in a slump:
1-How are your goals? Are they realistic but still a push? If you have down you are going to workout 6 times this week but know in your mind that is pushing it and won’t happen then write down what you really can achieve (but remember its a goal you need to push yourself). Look at your schedule when are you realistically able to workout, then schedule it. If the only time that day you can exercise is at 5 AM and you have never woken up that early in your life, then maybe that should be your rest day.
2-Are you challenging yourself? I get lots of emails saying, ” I eat really good and workout every day and nothing is happening?” Change up your workouts!! Do exercises out of your comfort zone. I know with your current workout routine you are still working up a sweat and burning calories, but if its the same thing each week its time to mix it up. It’s amazing how our bodies get used to our workouts. Try a new class, try a new type of workout, do interval training, do more push ups, use heavier weights anything to mix it up!
3-Are your goals fitting for your life right now? Did you just have a baby? Are you giving yourself time to heal and enjoy your new baby? Are you starting out slow, not expecting to be where you were physically before you got pregnant? Do you hate to run but every week say you are going to run 3 days this week?? Are your knees killing you, but you are going to push through it? Be smart about your exercising. Once again exercising should be hard, but not killing your body and should be enjoyable. Find new things you love to do, obviously sometimes its not always fun, but you need to find that exercise that after you are done you think “I liked that” or “that wasn’t too bad” while panting and sweating of course :). Listen to your body and not to what others are doing.
These 3 things have helped me re organize my goals for exercising this month. And its OK to not always be hitting it hard! Our bodies feel good working out in a comfortable condition every once in a while.
Thanks for letting me vent!
