Last Night
Last night I had the opportunity to speak to 100 young adults about a subject that is very dear to my heart. I give nutrition presentations on a weekly basis. Yet, I rarely get to share my entire beliefs about nutrition, our bodies, and our spirits. When the latest crazes and extremes engulf our culture, my testimony of the Word of Wisdom (WOW) always brings me back to reality. I know that I might lose respect as a nutritional professional from some, but I truly believe everyone should have a personal passion behind their choices. Furthermore, sharing my full beliefs shouldn’t negate over 13 years of study and practice.
My lifestyle reflects my own interpretation of research and this Principle with Promise. The WOW was revealed to members of my faith long before scientists knew anything about cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and addiction. For me, the WOW is more than just avoiding coffee, tea, and alcohol. It is choosing good food that our Heavenly Father has placed on this earth for our purpose; wholesome herbs in their proper season, beasts and fowls of the earth (sparingly - not mass produced like man has created), and grains -especially wheat (which is not the same today as it was then, although it can be). We are told to consume these foods with prudence and thanksgiving. This means with practicality and forethought, realizing that even foods deemed “good” can be “bad” with obsessive consumption. While we should move, nourish, and set goals for our bodies - I don’t believe in becoming obsessive with anything nutrition or fitness related. This can be hard. Whether you agree with the ideologies of the WOW or not, I truly believe that implementing it’s principles into your life will be both profound and positive.
Now for the my mom’s delicious Summer Berry Salad:
