PFPF Spotlight: Kate
Hi! I’m Kate! I was born and raised in California. I moved to Utah after high school to attend the University of Utah where I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Early Childhood Education. Utah is also where I met my husband Derek and we’ve made it our permanent home. I worked as a first grade teacher for 5 years and loved it. I quit teaching when my pregnancy with triplet boys, yes you read that right, became too strenuous. Now my boys are four and…we’ve since added twin baby girls to our family who just turned seven months. I know crazy, I’m 29 years young and have five amazing kids, all under the age of five. My hands are full, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! My kids are my life, my routine, my number one priority, but in there somehow I find time to remain a runner. >> >> As a busy mom, I’m a big believer in carving out “me” time. I have many hobbies that I find fulfilling but above all is running. I guess you could say it’s my passion. That might sound dramatic but I really do love it. It’s my therapy, stress relief, pure joy, and allows me to have more patience as a mother and wife. I began running in college for weight management purposes with no aspirations of racing- let alone a marathon. Now here I am 11 years later and running is a part of my weekly routine. Over time I’ve grown to love and crave racing and all that comes with it. Due to my “high risk” pregnancies I was unable to run, which for me was difficult but necessary. Although it was a long break I have come back a stronger runner. With that said, I work really hard and it doesn’t come easy. I have found my rhythm and what works for me. I believe everyone, if desired can find a relationship with running that works for them. The body is an amazing vehicle- and with time I have learned to nurture and appreciate mine more throughout the years. >> >> I have put together this training plan because I believe that everyone can run, whether it’s a 5k, half marathon or a full marathon. Running is 85% mental in my eyes, so once you believe in yourself you can achieve anything you set your mind to. A few things to remember, if your a busy mom or working full time along this journey the one thing I’ve learned throughout my journey is that we need to embrace flexibility. Listen to your body, and realize that exhaustion comes with the territory! Never does this ring true more than when training for a race. It’s a big time commitment, a sacrifice. Follow the plan, but don’t be afraid to alter a few workouts to keep yourself healthy and rested. >> >> Maybe it’s the teacher mentality that runs through me but I love coaching and helping people improve. I’m thrilled to help each one of you on this journey- whether you’re a first time runner, a novice or just want to simply improve your performance. Whatever you’re goal is, you can accomplish it! You might even surprise yourself!
